June 10, 2010 Jordin Sparks aims for good music over sex appeal as Battlefield Tour hits NYC

NY Daily News, Michael Sheridan

Sex sells -- especially for teen stars turned pop stars Miley Cyrus and Christina Aguilera.

But don't go looking for Jordin Sparks to go all leather and lace.

"I've never wanted to be a sex symbol," the 20-year-old "American Idol" winner told the Daily News. "I just wanted to be a singer and sell my music and make sure I can touch people along the way."

With a laugh, Sparks noted, "There're already enough artists out that that do all that and go crazy."

Not that this young starlet has an issue with young starlets who don revealing outfits or over-the-top creations.

"I'm a little uncomfortable with showing a lot of skin, so that keeps me away from that," Sparks said with a laugh. She's just "never been about how high I can wear my dress, or how low-cut I can wear my shirt."

The season six victor in the popular Fox series has kept true to her word with her solo Battlefield Tour, which kicked off last month and arrives in New York City at the Nokia Theater in Times Square on June 10.
